  • New signing excited with opportunity
  • Clarke joined from Spurs
  • Wideman could debut at Blackburn

Jack Clarke says regular first team football was a key factor in his decision to join Stoke City on loan for the remainder of the 2020/21 campaign.

The 21-year-old’s move to the Potters was confirmed earlier this afternoon with minutes at his parent club Tottenham Hotspur proving difficult to come by.

After breaking through with his first club Leeds United, the wideman played a key part in their run to the play-offs in 2018/19 before spending time on loan with Queens Park Rangers last season.

But now Clarke will spend the rest of the current season in North Staffordshire and it is an opportunity he is looking to grab with both hands.

“I feel like this is a really big opportunity for me to actually show what I can do and play some games as it feels like a while since I’ve actually played!” He told Stoke City+.

“As a player you always want to play but if those opportunities don’t come for whatever reason, there are always opportunities to learn.

“The plan with Spurs was for me to come and get some first team football, and once I had spoken to Michael and his staff, Stoke is a big club so it was a no brainer really.”

Clarke revealed conversations with Tyrese Campbell and Joe Bursik helped persuade him to make the move to the Potteries and with City taking on Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, the City new-boy is hoping for some involvement in that game.

“I’ve spoken with a few of the lads this week about coming to the Club and they told me what it is like,” the 20-year-old revealed. “I’ve played with a few of them in the England youth levels and they’ve enjoyed being at the Club.

“I hope to get some involvement on Saturday, show what sort of player I am and what I’m all about.

He added: “I’m hoping they’re (the fans) going to see a winger who likes to create chances, pitch in with some goals. I like to play with freedom when I play, I just want to enjoy playing football here.”
