  • Wilmot ruled out for rest of season
  • Defender has suffered a fracture in his back
  • Manager was speaking ahead of Wigan clash

Alex Neil has confirmed in his press conference that Ben Wilmot has sustained a fracture in his back during Saturday's match against West Bromwich Albion and will miss the rest of the season.

Wilmot was treated for a lengthy period of time towards the end of the first half before being taken to hospital after leaving the field of play on a stretcher.

Speaking ahead of the Potters' clash with Wigan Athletic tomorrow Neil confirmed Wilmot's absence for the remainder of the campaign.

"He's currently still in hospital. We've had the scan done and unfortunately he's got a fracture in his back and will miss the rest of the season." The boss confirmed to the media.

"I spoke to him last night. He's getting medication for the pain. We're hoping he'll be discharged today or tomorrow and we can start his recovery. I don't think there is need for surgery but it's not nice to see a lad stretchered off."
