  • Potters seeking third successive win on the road against Swansea
  • City beat Preston and Hull in their previous two away encounters
  • The visitors to South Wales will be supported by over 500 fans

Stoke City will aim to record a third successive win on the road when they make the long journey to South Wales on Wednesday to face Swansea City (8pm kick-off).

The Potters have run out victors on their previous two fixtures away from home after beating play-off hopefuls Preston North End (2-1) and Hull City (2-0) in recent weeks.

Steven Schumacher’s side followed up their win over the Tigers on Good Friday with back-to-back home draws with Huddersfield Town and West Bromwich Albion, coming from behind in both contests to extend their unbeaten run to three matches heading into the final five games of the campaign.

The Swans are in the midst of a difficult run of form after beating arch rivals Cardiff City in mid-March. Luke Williams and his charges have collected one point from the previous nine available against Sheffield Wednesday, Queens Park Rangers and Middlesbrough.

Recent results for the Potters and the Swans mean that the former sit just three places and one point behind the latter heading into Wednesday’s encounter.

The reverse fixture at the bet365 Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw as Harry Darling cancelled out Daniel Johnson’s penalty in the final minute of normal time.

That contest in the Potteries is one of 81 to have been played between the two sides. The Potters have won 33 compared to 25 victories for the Swans. Twenty-three meetings have ended level.

REF WATCH

Keith Stroud has been chosen to oversee proceedings at the Swansea.com Stadium on Wednesday.

It will be second time during the 23/24 season that the experienced EFL official will take charge of a match involving the Potters. He was in the middle at the New York Stadium in January when Steven Schumacher’s side beat Rotherham United thanks to Lewis Baker’s free kick on the stroke of half-time.

Stroud is also no stranger to the Swans during the current season having been in the middle for their contests against Southampton (5-0 defeat), Leicester City, (3-1 defeat) and Sunderland (2-1 win).

Across 25 matches in the three EFL divisions in 23/24, Stroud has dished out 127 yellows and three reds. He has also pointed to the penalty spot on three occasions.

His most recent outing was on Easter Monday when he presided over events at Home Park where Plymouth Argyle slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Bristol City.

Assisting Stroud in South Wales on Wednesday will be Matthew Smith and Nigel Lugg. Josh Smith will act as the fourth official.
