Rebrand ahead of seventh season of Premier Division action…
STOKE CITY are delighted to announce that the Club’s female team is to play in the FA Women’s National League as Stoke City next season, removing the Ladies sub-title.
The exciting rebrand sees the team move in line with a modern view on equality and language and reaffirms the ‘one-club’ approach at Stoke City.
Previously known as Stoke City Ladies, the women’s team will continue to receive financial backing from the Club, as well as use of the Club’s state-of-the-art Clayton Wood training complex.
Adrian Hurst, Head of City’s Community Trust, said: “After consulting with players and staff we have made the decision to change our name to Stoke City as we believe it reflects the status of the female team within the Club structure.”
Home matches will continue to be played at Community Drive, in the heart of the city of Stoke, where Stoke City experienced a record aggregate attendance figure of more than 2,500 last season.
Hurst added: “The current success of the England Lionesses has seen women’s football reach out to a wider audience, with 11.7million people having watched their World Cup semi-final against the United States.
“We want to capitalise on interest and ensure that we are providing opportunities for young players to reach their full potential.”
As in line with recent years, Stoke City season card holders for the 2019/20 campaign will receive free entry to all of the women’s team’s home matches.
Formed in 2001, today’s news is the latest chapter in the club’s history as they prepare for their seventh consecutive season in the FA Women’s National League Premier Division, the third tier of women’s football.
Where distinction is required, the female team will be known as Stoke City FC (Women). The team’s social media handle will be revamped to @scfc_women.
